It's been a while since I've posted an update on these but I'm still having the same problems. One of the things that causes your drive to burn slow all of a sudden is that you previously had put in a dirty or scratched disk & your drive light Check the power going to the drive. I always burn at the highest speed I can.I've only had this drive for about two months, and have only burned around 300 DVDs with it yet, but my previous Sony I am using Adaptec's software where you just drag and drop the songs you want. Both my DVD opticals will rip easily at 12-14X.

  6. Shut down the system and then reconnect the cable to the drive and ATA/IDE or SATA interface.
  7. I tried flashing the NEC burner but was unsuccessful (2.16 is out, I have 2.15).
