I tried shutting the PC down normally in safe mode, but it gets stuck on the Shutting down screen, and I still have to shut it down manually. Also plug off the laptop from electricity first. They're pretty nice folks who like to help people, even insufferably n00bish nutcases like me But that's a story for another day... The computer still refuses to shut down, restart or even go into sleep mode normally.
